Welcome to QA Underground!

This is my Software Quality Assurance Underground page, I've had the domain for a long time now and I figure that it's about time to actually do something with it other than just my email. I have been in QA for about 10 years now, living through many good times and many bad, leaving me with a lot of knowledge and insight to "All things QA" and the Software industry that we all love and hate.

I have been involved in many QA projects at companies over the years that have allowed me to experience how things are done at companies of many sizes and in completely different situations. All companies 'got by' with their QA and Software Development Processes but few really 'got it right'. If you ask everybody "how important is the quality of your product?" they will obviously answer Quality is very important - then how is it that so many seem to struggle to achieve what really works?

Why the Struggle?

I could put a long line of bullet points here but I have a few simple points for a start as answers to the true problem.

1. You need a QA team that cares - morale may be an issue.
2. QA has to drive the release process - often hard for development to give up control.
3. QA needs to be there from the beginning of a project, their perspective is unique.

Also consider...

1. Business needs must be planned in advance, need the guts to hold the line whenever possible.
2. QA needs to support the Development team's needs 100% - delays are costly!
3. Development needs to support the QA team's needs 100% - delays are costly!
4. Check the Ego's at the door - Showboats and Glory hounds need not apply. Product is paramount.

There are 100's of ways you can improve your processes to make QA more effective but if the above were truly followed you could see a big improvement without question.

Ponder that, I hope to add much over time.
